On March 26-27, the World Smart Energy Summit Russia World Summit on Smart Energy was held for the third time in Moscow, bringing 500 experts from 25 countries together. As a part of the business program, over 90 practical cases from Russian and foreign market leaders were presented.
For two days, there were five halls at the Event-hall site dedicated to key topics of the summit - digitalization, distributed and industrial energy, the development of energy-efficient buildings and cities, and intelligent utilities. Special programs for leaders and start-ups — the Knowledge Center and Energy Tech Hub were highlighted in separate streams.
As part of the summit, an exhibition of innovative solutions from industry leaders and startups, — Schneider Electric, Digital Transformation Factory, NORBIT, EnergoTech Service, Voltaware, Wirenboard, Prosoft Systems, Tibbo Systems, Energomery, Petersburg Instrument Plant, as well as ITSumma, RCNTEC, Erachain, MCA, Smart Energy, InfoPro, — was held.
The Summit was opened by a plenary discussion on the role of innovative technologies and energy market adaptation to new digital realities, with the participation of the Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of the Association of Energy Consumer Associations, with the Chair of the World Smart Energy Summit Program Committee. Russia Alexander Starchenko, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC SO UES Fedor Opadchiy, Chief Technical Officer of the Industrial Internet Consortium (USA) Stephen Mellor, Regional Advisor to the UN Economic Commission for Europe Oleg Dzyubinsky, Chief specialist in housing and utilities solutions SAP SE (Germany) Zhero Bizer and Mikhail Andronov, President of the National Power Operator Rusenergosbyt.
The future of the energy sector is led by distributed technologies that meet the needs of customers and renewable energy sources (RES), according to summit experts.
The president of Rusenergosbyt, Mikhail Andronov, emphasized that today the situation on the Russian energy market is unique for small businesses. "There is a myth in society that energy - it's only for big corporations, mainly public, and that it is impossible to engage with small businesses, - he explained. - Today we see a big redistribution in the energy sector - a new niche is emerging (the production of storage devices, solar panels, wind turbines, as well as the emergence of businesses selling, installing and maintaining them), which will be filled with young and energetic businessmen. In the perspective of 10 years, the huge sector with its leaders will evolve, and we can already predict today that this will be a mainly private business.” In his opinion, the World Smart Energy Summit Russia is a conference for those who want to understand where to go and how to earn money on the energy market.
Chairman of the Board of JSC "SO UES" Fedor Opadchiy among the main global trends called the development of generation based on renewable energy sources. “The total amount of generation planned for construction on the basis of renewable energy in the UES of the South by 2023 is about 5,000 MW, which is more than 30% of the maximum power consumption in this energy pool. Thus, the whole world agenda related to the technological integration of RES generation in the power system is not in theory but in practice, becomes relevant for Russia, and we will have to deal with these issues as soon as possible,” said Fyodor Opadchiy.
Another global trend that can hardly be overestimated is digitalization. Her role, according to Jero Bizer, will continue to grow, thanks to the use of digital technologies, electricity suppliers will be able to offer new products to both traditional customers and prosumers. Moreover, digitalization will help in predicting long-term scenarios, which assets need to be replaced and how to strengthen the energy system to cope with the growth in the production of renewable energy sources and an increase in the number of electric vehicles.
“It is necessary to move from the model of selling energy as a commodity to selling energy as a service. The role of digital technologies in ensuring that such a transformation takes place is invaluable- without this, it simply will not work,” Oleg Dzyubinsky agreed with his colleagues.
Leonid Neganov, Minister of Energy of the Moscow Region spoke about the active decontamination of solid waste landfills in the Moscow region and the landfill gas station project, International Relations Specialist of the Passive House Institute (Germany) Brett Hill presented the case “ Passive House for High-Density Building for Urban Life ”, Chairman of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (Greece) Nikos Hatsiargiriu spoke about the practical use and technological management of microgrid in Greece, Director of Business " Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development " Schneider Electric in the CIS and Poland Sergey Semenov presented a case on the hidden reserves of digital transformation.
Representatives of large industrial, industrial and commercial energy consumers, energy, generating, distribution and distribution enterprises, representatives of ministries, municipalities and housing and public utilities, as well as technology leaders and entrepreneurs, have participated in the summit: Enel X (Italy), EDF (France), United Shipbuilding Corporation, Enerjisa (Turkey), IKEA, Sibur, Skolkovo, Innopolis, Rosneft, VTB, KazMunaiGaz, Gazprom Neft, Severstal, Almaty Heat Networks (Kazakhstan), Inka Services Russia, Accenture, Innovate UK, Go InterAgro, Rosseti, Teploenergo (Nizhny Novgorod), Grodnoenergo (Belarus), Gubakha Energy Company, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Er-Telecom, HEP Group (Croatia), AtomEnergoSbyt, Samaraneftegaz, Siemens, Knowledge Dialoques, Hitachi Vantara and many others.
